Volunteer at the Northside Rock’n’Roll Carnival

Summer is Here!

School is out and the weather is beautiful, and that means that everyone is riding bikes and the co-op is extra busy. June is packed full of events: in addition to our weekly Open Shops and Volunteer Nights and our monthly Board meeting, we have a ride to Findlay Market, Thursday night Slow & Steady rides, the Pride Parade, a music jam in the garden, and of course Kids’ Day! The third Saturday of the month is also going to see the return of a Women’s/Trans/Non-gender-conforming Only shop session. Check our Facebook page for the most up-to-date info.

Speaking of Kids’ Day, the first week is this Monday, June 12 and will feature a special visit from Northside educator, storyteller, and juggler Tom Sparrough, the Space Painter. Expect collaboration later in the summer with organizations like Happen Inc and Wordplay. We have also hired an awesome new Kids’ Day Coordinator. Trish Richter of the Peaslee Center is bringing her experience working with youth and organizing educational programming to bear on the beautiful chaos of Kids’ Day. Let us know if you’d like to be involved, and she’ll put you to work, no bike experience necessary!

Recruiting Paid Coordinator & Volunteers for Kids’ Day

***Update: Job application deadline extended to 4 P.M. 5.29.17***

We at the MoBo Bike Co-op are reaching out to community members to spread the word about our summer youth programming, Kids’ Day. It runs every Monday of summer (except 4th of July week) from 5 until 8. Youth are able to drop in and work on their own bike one-on-one with an adult volunteer. Those without bikes are able to earn one of their own. While kids are waiting their turn to work with a mechanic, we provide supplemental programming, often with the aid of partner organizations, which have included such neighborhood regulars Happen Inc and Wordplay. We also have helmets available thanks to donors and the Children’s Hospital. All of this is provided free of charge.

To operate smoothly Kids’ Day requires adult volunteers, and we are continually recruiting more. Kids’ Day also merits our organization’s only paid position: we have a small stipend available for a part-time Coordinator, and are actively looking for candidates. Neither volunteers nor the coordinator need to have an extensive knowledge of bikes; the main requirement is an excitement for hands on learning and youth self-empowerment. If you know of anyone who would be interested in participating, we would appreciate it if you would let them know. Find the official job posting here:
